Advance information, some of which has never been released, about the key concepts of a
stadium equipped with state-of-the-art technology and maximum comfort… for everyone
The original idea
An original idea that imbues the future home of Valencia CF with
singularity and a special identification with the fan base. The façade and the roof of the future
stadium will be formed by 16 main plates each representing one of the city’s districts on a small
scale. These plates will be composed of a total of 23,000 aluminium scales, measuring 2.10 by 1.20
metres.
Linking the 16 districts will be a spectacular glass skylight representing the
old Turia river bed.
Three rings with perfect visibility from 73,000
seats
The future Valencia CF stadium’s stands will be on three levels with 73,000
covered seats designed using an advanced computer application to provide – in an individual
analysis – perfect visibility of the match. The dimensions of the field will be exactly the same as
those of Mestalla: 105 x 68 metres.
Oval, closed and vertical design to optimise environmental
pressure
The special curvilinear design of the stands and the building itself,
exclusively provided by RFA / ARUP SPORT, contributes both to the aforementioned optimal visibility
and to strengthening a maximum feeling of environmental pressure on the rival team. The first rows
will be very close to the field (in accordance with the minimum distances established by UEFA) and
the overlapping and vertical design of the stands will contribute to increasing the pressure of the
fans. The roof, which is only open directly above the field, shapes the space and focuses attention
on the match in order to increase the feeling of “stage fright”, which is a feature of the current
Mestalla.
The distribution spaces for the spectators will be comfortable and roomy,
especially from the level of the new entrance from the outside; there fans will enjoy a new visual
sensation, a spectacular panoramic view from an almost diaphanous ground level of the entire
stadium and the pitch, located some eight metres below.
A comfort level far exceeding standards
If there is an element that defines the new stadium it is a comfort level for all users that far exceeds the standard of major European stadiums. For example, the usual distance of 75 to 80 centimetres between rows of seats is complied with in the narrowest area of the new Valencia stadium: the top stand. In the bottom stand, this distance is 85 cm and in the middle stand it varies from 85 to 105 cm. Fans will enjoy a space between seats that is greater than that of the chairman's seat at the current Mestalla (80 cm).
Similarly, the comfort of all spectators will significantly increase due to the range of services on offer to them. All these commercial, leisure and sanitary services exceed the standards set by UEFA for ‘Elite’ stadiums.
Safety will also play a significant role, given that according to the evacuation flow calculations, all the seats in the stadium can be evacuated in approximately 8 minutes. Furthermore, access to each seat will also be especially quick thanks to in-depth studies carried out with regard to the number of entrances and circulation areas.
All types of services for a singular experience
The experience of visiting the new Valencia CF stadium will cover much
more than the two hours of the match, the stadium will allow fans to enjoy a series of attractions
that will encourage them to arrive earlier and stay longer after the game is over. There will be a
wide range of restaurant services, both inside and outside the stadium, with direct access from the
car park, which will enliven the building every day, even when there is no event.
Moreover, the arrangement of the different vertical communication centres has
allowed for compliance with even the most demanding of accessibility parameters for the disabled
(the building has a wide range of ramps, lift and escalators). The three stands have reserved areas
for people with reduced mobility and their companions and the access and evacuation routes have
exclusive reserved spaces.
Finally, aligning the stadium with a north-south orientation on the plot has
allowed a broad pedestrian area to be created opposite the main façade, a new square next to the
Avenida de las Cortes Valencianas. An esplanade in which fans can assemble to build an atmosphere
for the event and to enjoy the aesthetic values of Valencia’s new home.
Underground car park with at least 3500 spaces
In the design of all global stadiums it is important to ensure parking
facilities for fans close to the ground. It is the task of other mechanisms (improvements in the
different public transport systems) to ensure the correct flow of visitors. Under this premise, the
new stadium will have 3500 underground parking spaces, the majority of which will be used seven
days a week. The location of the building in an urban environment will also allow for increased
public transport services (underground stations and bus stops close to the stadium); and local car
parks (the Nuevo Centro and Hipercor shopping centres and the Congress Centre) contribute an
additional 7000 parking spaces. Over a quarter of the population of the city will have, moreover,
the possibility of travelling to the stadium on foot, as is the case at the current Mestalla.
In short, Valencia football club has set its sights on creating a comfortable
stadium, located in a first-class urban environment surrounded by a multitude of services that will
be an incentive for many fans to arrive earlier and stay longer.
VIP facilities for authorities, private boxes and press
area
This a building with a modern design, conceived in such a way that the
aesthetics and visibility of the rings of stands are not affected by the VIP area, which is hidden
away in the second level. There will be a Box of Honour and several company boxes in the second
ring in addition to gold and silver boxes with 1200 m² of reception and waiting areas that will
ensure that the building will have a wide variety of services to suit all pockets.
The media, which will have access to well-equipped areas in the bottom stand,
will have facilities in line with the international status of the new stand: 575 m² press room,
private restaurant areas, auditorium for press conferences with a capacity for 200 people, 4
vomitoria with direct access to the reserved area, photography aid equipment, 250 m² mixed area
with direct access to the press room and 5 interview studios.
Bioclimatic and acoustic optimisation
The future Valencia CF stadium will have a calculated interior air
renewal system to maintain optimal temperature and humidity levels. Accordingly, in the hottest
months, in which there is a relative humidity level of between 70 and 80%, apertures in the
exterior skin of the building will enable sufficient air to circulate to prevent excess
condensation, which can be extremely harmful to the pitch.
The design of the internal skin of the building in conjunction with the
carefully designed oval stands will enable the stadium to maintain Mestalla’s ‘pressure cooker’
tradition as this amplifies the ‘intimidating’ acoustic environment inside the stadium, without
affecting local residents.
