A very special tour for the families of the Ronald McDonald initiative

Garay, a special surprise right at the heart of Mestalla

An unforgettable experience for the families

While enjoying the Mestalla Forever stadium tour, and hearing about Valencia CF defender Ezequiel Garay, the Argentine appeared in person to surprise the families of the Ronald McDonald Foundation. After being invited to visit the club by the Valencia CF Foundation, those present were given a moment to remember, with Garay wanting to show his support for the families who have a son or daughter who is suffering from a serious illness. The Ronald McDonald House is a small building that is next to the Hospital Universitari Politecnic La Fe in the city, which is free and available to the families whenever they need it.

Both young and old loved the surprise, and Garay went further to invite the families to a LaLiga game at some point during the remainder of the season. Each of the families involved with the foundation were assigned with a name of an animal, but now they might all want to be bats instead.

Casa Ronald McDonald Valencia conducts all kinds of treatments (oncology, neurology, nephrology, transplants, maxillofacial, etc), and the families each have their own private bathroom and some communal areas such as kitchens, dining rooms, living rooms, games rooms, a library, a garden, a washing room and a gym. Their big team of volunteers helps to put on a lot of different activities and exercises to help offer the families a 'home away from home' during a tough period of their lives. During the three years that the facility has been open, they have helped more than 700 families, and they look after 16 at any one time. 80% of the families are based in the Valencia region and they go through periods of weeks, months or even a year and a half of treatment. It truly is their second home.
