Diakhaby’s emotional return to Mestalla
A standing ovation from the fans accompanied the Valencia CF defender as he stepped onto the pitch
Mouctar Diakhaby had long envisioned returning to play at Mestalla alongside the fans, and after 337 days recovering from a serious injury, he finally made it happen. The Valencia CF center-back received a thunderous ovation as he stepped onto the field. Notably, he had already played a few minutes in the previous match against FC Barcelona at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.
Yesterday was an unforgettable evening for Diakhaby. The Valencia CF defender entered the match in the 81st minute, helping the team secure three crucial points. His return to the pitch was a testament to perseverance, hard work, sacrifice, and commitment—qualities the fans acknowledged with a heartfelt ovation as he took his place in the Valencia defense.
“It’s very difficult to explain what I felt. I was eager to step onto Mestalla again. It’s always special for me. I’m very happy. Mestalla was incredible,” Diakhaby told VCF Radio after the match.
The Guinean defender not only played his first minutes back at Mestalla but also came close to scoring Valencia CF’s third goal. “I wanted to score and be part of the celebration. It wasn’t a goal, but it was close. I can’t even imagine what would have happened if I had scored,” he said.
As he has mentioned on numerous occasions, his recovery would not have been possible without the support and dedication of the Club’s staff. To show his gratitude, Diakhaby made a special gesture: “I’m giving today’s jersey to someone from the staff who has worked with me. They are very important to me. They’ve helped me a lot, and I want to thank them with a special shirt,” he shared.
This moment marks another step in his journey to regain full match fitness and confidence on the field. Diakhaby is getting closer and closer to returning to his best level.
