Diego López: "I'm very happy for the boys and girls who will get to enjoy this beautiful football field at the Sedaví Municipal Sports Center"
The Valencia CF winger spoke to the media following the inauguration of the new sports facility.
The Brazilian goalkeeper will also attend the match against Getafe CF at the Mestalla Stadium.
Throughout its history, Valencia CF has had many great goalkeepers guarding the net. One of them, without a doubt, is Diego Alves. The Brazilian keeper played 175 official matches for the Valencian side, becoming the sixth-most capped goalkeeper in the club’s history.
The Rio de Janeiro native visited Valencia CF’s first-team squad at the training ground accompanied by his family and with support from LALIGA. He was welcomed by Sports Director Miguel Ángel Corona—who shared four seasons with Alves during their time at UD Almería—and team captains José Luis Gayà and Jaume Domènech, who were his teammates during his time at Valencia.
One of his most memorable achievements with Valencia CF came in 2015, when he set a record of 677 consecutive minutes without conceding a goal at Mestalla Stadium, surpassing the previous record held by José Luis Meléndez and Ángel Abelardo, who had 663 minutes.
Another of his standout traits was his exceptional penalty-saving ability, earning him the nickname "penalty-stopper." In LALIGA, he saved 22 of the 45 penalties he faced—a success rate of nearly 50%.
Diego Alves will also attend and support the team at Mestalla in Valencia CF’s upcoming match against Getafe CF.
