Diego López: “We will fight, as always, to get the three points against FC Barcelona”
The Valencia CF forward spoke to the media in the press room
The Valencia CF attacker, Diego López, appeared on Tuesday, September 9, before the media in the press room at the Ciutat Esportiva de Paterna to discuss the upcoming match against FC Barcelona, the team he previously played for before joining VCF Mestalla in 2021.
Stadium for the match
“I think it’s incredible that five days before the match we still don’t know where we’re going to play. This should have been resolved a long time ago, not only for the team but for the fans, they deserve an answer so they can come and support us. This situation should have been resolved already.”
Contract renewal
“It has been a smooth process. Both parties wanted the same thing. There were never any problems. I’ve always wanted to stay here. I’m very happy at the Club, with the fans, and in the city.”
Goal
“A club like Valencia CF has always had the responsibility to be at the top. Last year we also started the season with high expectations to reach Europe and, in the end, we struggled a lot in the first half. This year, we must not make the mistake of setting a goal at the beginning. We have to take it match by match, and over the course of the season the objective will become clear.”
Spanish National Team
“One always dreams of it. It’s a goal you set for yourself. I still have a lot of work to do to reach it, given the level out there, but I will keep working and giving my best in the hope of one day receiving a call-up to the national team.”
Transfer market
“The transfer window has been very good. We’ve added players upfront who can contribute a lot, which is great news. Having so many talented players is good because it creates competition. We’re all happy. I see the team in very good shape. Danjuma is incredible with his 1v1 and quick shot, Ramazani is electric, very skilled. Everyone is going to contribute a lot; they have real talent.”
FC Barcelona
“Last year’s result hurt a lot. That has to motivate us to play with even more intensity. Hopefully we break the negative streak of not winning there since 2016. I always want to win, no matter the opponent. We have a chance to win; we’ve been working very well. We will fight, as always, and give our best to get the three points.”
Preferred position on the field
“I play where I feel most comfortable. I can play in all attacking positions, it doesn’t matter which. I always want to help the team, and wherever the coach puts me, I’ll give my all.”
Individual performance
“My goal is to keep improving and surpass last year’s numbers because it will be good for me and the team.”
Academia VCF and Masía FCB
“Both work very well from the ground up. They focus on development and helping players take the step to the elite. They are both great academies, similar in many ways.”
International break
“It has been different. The last two years I didn’t have a break because I was with the U21s. We’ve continued working at a high level, refining aspects and preparing for the match against FC Barcelona. Just another normal week.”
