Discover José Luis Gayà's link with CD Leganés
The Valencia CF captain reached his 200th game as a Valencia CF player in 2019 against the ‘pepinero’ team.
On 22 September 2019, a Valencia CF-CD Leganés match was played at the Camp de Mestalla. A match that Valencia CF drew (1-1), but the match's highlight was the statistic achieved by the current Valencia CF captain, José Luis Gayà. The Pedreguer-born made his 200th appearance in the Valencia CF shirt.
Five years ago Gayà had already reached the 200 mark mark at the age of 24. Currently, at the age of 29, the Valencia CF skipper has more than 350 official games for the club of his life: Valencia CF.
José Luis Gayà (25/05/1995) joined the VCF Academy at the age of 11 with the dream of defending the Valencia CF crest and playing at the Camp de Mestalla in front of the fans. Gradually, he grew to become one of the pillars of VCF Mestalla. As a result of his great performance and hard work, on 30 October 2012, he was given the opportunity to make his debut in an official match with the first team.
The Valencia CF defender has been lengthening his legend by leaps and bounds: on 20 October 2015, he made his 50th appearance against KAA Gent. Four years later (05/05/2019) and consolidated with the first team, he reached 150 games against SD Huesca.
He reached 250 games against Getafe CF on 27 February 2021 and the big figure of 350 was reached in the victory against the ‘azulón’ team, thus becoming the second youngest player (28 years and 289 days) in the history of the Club to play that many games. He is ahead of Fernando Gómez Colomer, who achieved those figures at 27 years and 239 days.
This coming Friday 4 October, Valencia CF will once again face CD Leganés. However, Gayà will not be available, as he is recovering from the serious injury he sustained in the rectus femoris quadriceps of his left leg. The Valencian captain's return to competition is getting closer and closer.
