The Champions League returns to Mestalla this Wednesday, as Valencia CF take on Ajax (9pm CEST) at home. The team got their European campaign underway with a victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, and are chasing a second win in a row in their group.

This is the twelfth season for Valencia CF in the Champions League, putting them in the Top 10 for appearances sides from the main European Leagues since the format changed 23 years ago.
Since their first time in the competition, in 1999/2000, Valencia CF have taken part in 12 editions. They are the Spanish side with the third most appearances, after Real Madrid (23) and FC Barcelona (22).

Only 9 teams in Europes ‘Big Four’ leagues have participated in the Champions League on more occasions: Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, German side Bayern Munich (22); the Premier League’s Manchester United (20), Arsenal FC (19) and Chelsea FC (16) and Juventus (18), AC Milan and Internazionale (13) from Italy.
