A Uruguayan flavour to the game against Getafe
Valencia CF’s game against Getafe may take place on Matchday 22 of the Spanish league season, but it will have a distinctly Uruguayan flavour. Five players who could potentially feature at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez on Saturday (4pm CET) hail from the South American country, including VCF’s own Maxi Gómez.

The team from the capital have Mauro Arambarri, new signing Erick Cabaco, Damián Suárez and Mathías Olivera in their ranks. Gómez trained alongside Arambarri at the start of this career with Defensor Sporting in their homeland, albeit for only a few months when he was brought up to practice with the first team. With the national team he has played with Cabaco, who as a Levante UD player up until this winter, has also spent time with him off the pitch in Valencia before his move to Madrid.

Gomez has only played against Damián Suárez, but has an extensive history with the Getafe fullback’s brother, Mathias. Both came through in the same year at Defensor Sporting.
The striker will be after goals at the Coliseum, having scored twice against Getafe at Mestalla in the first half of the season. Now, with 10 goals to his name, Gomez is looking to fill his boots again in a direct battle for a Champions League berth.
