Eray Cömert's good performances with Valencia CF have allowed him to reach the 2022 World Cup with his confidence high. The Swiss central defender spoke with VCF MEDIA before joining up with his country for the World Cup.
A big occasion
I'm more happy than nervous. It's my first World Cup and an incredible experience for me. I'm very happy to be going to the World Cup.
A tough group
I think that our group is the toughest. Brazil are the favourites to win the World Cup, Serbia have a very good team, and Cameroon have very good players too. The first game against Cameroon is very important for us. When you start well, anything is possible.
Switzerland's chances
We have a very good team as well, and we believe that the other teams know this. We reached the quarter finals in Euro 2020, losing on penalties to Spain. The big sides know that we are a good team.
His confidence
Personally, I have a lot of confidence and I'm taking that into the World Cup. I don't know how we'll do, but I'll be ready.
Top level experience in the squad
Akanji plays in England and so does Schar. Elvedi plays in the Bundesliga. It's good for the team, because competition makes you stronger. The World Cup is a good opportunity for all of us young players, with everybody watching. It's an honour to play in a World Cup.
