Costa makes second debut at Mestalla
Four days after signing his contract with Valencia CF, Jaume Costa stepped straight into the starting lineup in place of the suspended José Luis Gayà. The fullback played 81 minutes of the game against Real Sociedad.
His original debut for the club came almost 11 years ago, in a UEFA Cup game against Brugge. After a long stay at Villarreal, including time under current coach Marcelino, Costa was back on the flank on Saturday night.
"We wanted to take the three points in our first LaLiga game, in front of our home fans. I think that we had a fairly complete game defensively. We had chances to make the scoreline more comprehensive in our favour," said the defender after the match.
"They had possession, but barely created chances. We went ahead, they had possession but didn't get opportunities, whilst we had two chances: One that hit the post, plus the penalty. In the end, we paid the price in the final minute with some bad luck, conceding a penalty and the opposition converting. We'll try to rest up and prepare to try to take the three points next week."
