Gayà: " If we don't match the other team's intensity, then it's very difficult"
Valencia CF let an opportunity to move closer to the Champions League spots slip away with a tough defeat to RCD Mallorca at Son Moix. Following the final whistle, José Luis Gayà spoke to Movistar+ LaLiga to offer his thoughts on what transpired in the 4-1 loss.

Analysing the defeat
"First of all, we want to apologise to the fans. I don't think that they deserve to see the team like this -we weren't ourselves. This was a very bad game for us, right from the opening minute; we'd spoken about how we had to start off with intensity and desire, because there was a lot at stake. Without that intensity, it's impossible for us to achieve our objectives. It was a golden chance for us to get a point off the Champions League places, and we wasted it. We can't start a game like that."

Explanations
"We came into this one off a very bad game against Real Madrid, and a little bit of the same thing happened there that happened today. The game against Real Madrid had been put behind us, but we lacked something that is basic for winning. If we don't match the other team's intensity, then it's very difficult. It's a lack of attitude that we can't allow ourselves, because we won't achieve our objectives like that. We have to move on immediately, change our attitude and show that right away against Logroñés."
The lack of intensity
"It was a game for which we knew the conditions we would have -which were the same for both sides- but we can't let them score in the fifth minute. That makes it very difficult. We saw a team that went out there without desire and without attitude, and we can't allow that to happen. The fans didn't deserve to see their team play like that, so we have to change this as soon as possible. We need to be more united, stronger and more solid in defence."
