Gayà returns to scene of first Spain cap
José Luis Gayà's most recent visit to the Martínez Valero was back in September of 2018, but it wasn't for Valencia CF. The fullback instead enjoyed one of the crowning moments of his career to date with Spain, making his full debut for 'La Roja.'
The game, against Croatia, was understandably a special one for Gayà, who had come up through the youth ranks for his country. It was a doubly joyful occasion because of the location: Just 1 hour away from his hometown of Pedreguer, the proximity allowed friends and family to make the trip to watch hiim in action.

Gayà was chosen as a starter in the match, which Spain won 6-0. Every action he performed was solid, intelligent and appreciated by those in attendance. Whilst tonight's game will be held behind closed doors and his loved ones will have to watch from afar, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the memories will come flooding back for Peedreguer's favourite son when Valencia CF take on Elche.
