Gayà's history with the Spain national team
José Luis Gayà's history with the Spain national team goes back to when he was 3 years old, when his father took him and brother Álex to watch 'La Roja' in action. That game was at Mestalla, on March 27th, 1999, and Spain won 9-0 against Austria in a qualifying game for Euro 2000.

The Valencia CF fullback has vague memories of that night, but the moments to remember involving Spain have kept on coming. Eighteen years later, in September of 2018, he was called up by coach Luis Enrique for his international debut. He has played eight games for his country, with a record of 7 wins and 1 draw, and has scored twice -including the striker that enabled Spain to draw with Germany in the dying moments of the match.
Since his debut in a 6-0 triumph over Croatia, he has earned a place in Luis Enrique's plans through hard work, stellar performances and dedication. The VCF captain is in the squad again for the latest round of international fixtures: Against Portugal in a friendly and in the UEFA Nations League against Switzerland and Ukraine.
