The opening game of Valencia CF’s preseason schedule saw coach Marcelino García Toral take a look at the club’s summer incorporations, giving unofficial debuts to five new faces.
Manu Vallejo
Vallejo played the opening 45 minutes against AS Monaco, and impressed with his constant movement off the ball. The player from Cadiz would also pick out Kevin Gameiro on several occasions over the course of the first half.
Maxi Gómez
The Uruguayan was brought on for the final 22 minutes of the contest, replacing Rodrigo Moreno. He sent a dangerous cross into the box on 70 minutes, which Rubén Sobrino was not quite able to reach. He also had a penalty appeal waved away by the referee.
Jason
Jason was one of several players introduced after halftime, and played on the right of the midfield. He set up a Cristiano Piccini for a dangerous chance, and moved into a central position when the Italian attacked up the flank.
Cillessen
Jasper Cillessen had a half hour cameo against AS Monaco, as Marcelino decided to use all three of his goalkeepers during the game. The Dutchman played the final 30 minutes, and was only required to claim a series of balls put into the area.
Koba Koindredi
The young Frenchman played in a double pivot in the starting lineup, alongside fellow countryman Francis Coquelin. He dropped back to offer assistance in bringing the ball upfield during the first half, before being substituted at the break.
