Javier Solís: “I think that for a while now Spanish football deserves to reflect on what VAR is and how it acts”
Javier Solís has been on DAZN's microphones at the conclusion of the match against Atlético Madrid where he has discussed the team's bad dynamic away from Mestalla and called for reflection on the use of the VAR.
Changing the dynamic
This was a very important week, with Valencia CF's anniversary. We would have liked to have celebrated it with a win, but it wasn't possible. It was a tough game and it was a loss that extends a run of defeats away to seven. That's hurting a lot. We've started to make Mestalla a fortress, but we definitely have to change the situation away from home. I hope that the international break can be used to change things, because we definitely need to end this run.
VAR
It was a chance to make it 1-1 and could have changed the game. After a defeat like today, you can't focus on the referee, but I think that for a while now Spanish football deserves to reflect on what VAR is and how it acts. We have the example of the game in Barcelona, in which Kessie committed a clear penalty and a corner that wasn't was invented, with VAR not being used. I also remember the game in Valladolid, the equaliser that had a foul in the midfield on Justin Kluivert. This isn't about putting the focus on referees, but we should reflect on why VAR has been brought in. I think that VAR was brought in to bring a little more justice and clarity and to help football, and I'm tired of seeing Valencia CF are the club most adversely affected by the intervention of VAR. I think that all clubs have stories about VAR, but we need to reflect, because we're going to ruin this beautiful sport when the players and fans don't know when it should be used or not. I think that it's something that could do a lot of damage to football.
