Marcelino: "It's difficult to explain so many draws"
Marcelino García Toral believed that Valencia CF did not deserve to miss out on all three points from their visit to Butarque, and explained why after the 1-1 draw with CD Leganés.
The late Leganés equaliser
"They were playing at home and were using their crosses as their main form of attack. I don't remember any clear chances for Leganés in the final stages of the game, whilst we had two dangerous opportunities. We also hit the post twice and had other clear chances. The game was tricky at the end, but their goal came off a rebound. Luck plays a part in football, and what's happened this year has never happened to me before. We played a very good game and the opposition did very little damage to us."
The draw
Two points got away from us, not due to what the opposition deserved but because football is being cruel with us this season. For me, the biggest mistake that we made was that Leganés scored on a counterattack when we were up 0-1 with two minutes remaining. It's very difficult to explain why we've drawn so many games, when we have deserved to win many of them. We conceded a goal from one of only three dangerous chances.
The performance
I don't think that the team relaxed. I think that we competed. Leganés dominated because they play direct football, with powerful players who give you that second ball. That's football; we lost because we gave away the ball and they countered. I'm proud of the team, but I feel sorry for the players as we haven't been able to convert this hard work and chances into victories.
Chances
Kondogbia's goal was perfect. Was Neto the best player in the match? He made two good saves. We hit the post twice and had clear chances. That's why we deserved to win. They didn't do enough to draw. We have to keep going. Draws are hindering this season, as based on our play and our chances we deserve to have more points.
