Marcelino: "We did some things well, and there are others that we need to improve"
Coach Marcelino García Toral analysed Valencia CF's game against Brighton on VCF MEDIA Radio following the final whistle, giving his opinions on his side's play.
The game
"We were playing against a very physical side. We started off very well, and were in control, although we maybe lacked a little in terms of our finishing and our play in the final third. We had the game under control and then there was the penalty -perhaps the opposition's only moment of danger. Later on we lost the ball a few times -more than we would have liked- and in the final stages the game broke down a little. We knew that we were up against a side who are very powerful in the air, and at half time we lost a bit of strength in that facet, and it's where the goal came from."
The effect of the result
"Each game in preseason is a test. We did some things well and there are others that we need to improve. We dominated the majority of the game, but we lacked a little freshness in our legs. That's normal against a team who are further along in their preparations, and maybe we were more imprecise. It's about accumulating games and training sessions in order to win on the opening day of the season."
The meetings in Singapore with majority shareholder Peter Lim
"Unrest inundated the club, the squad and the coaching staff, because the project had worked in an exemplary way for two years. I think that few sides in Europe have had this performance. Fortunately, the crisis has been ended. Two intelligent, capable people spoke with one another and their dialogue healed a wound in a definitive manner".
