Match Report: Away defeat ends unbeaten streak (2-0)
Valencia CF faced Rayo Vallecano at Vallecas at 6.30 pm kick-off time on matchday 31 in LaLiga Santander. Valencia CF had a slow start to the match at Vallecas.
Ferran Torres was denied by the Rayo keeper on a one on one situation after an inviting ball from Geoffrey Kondogbia and then again seconds later could not tuck away a miscued back pass.
There was a high tempo at both ends in a busy first half for both sides. Valencia CF had a spot-kick awarded which was saved by the keeper in the 27th minute of the match and minutes later Raúl de Tomás made it 1-0 to Rayo Vallecano.
Santi Mina fired it over twice in the closing minutes just as Rayo were constantly asking the Valencia CF defence questions. The first half finished in an open but tight first half in southeast Madrid.
Valencia CF came out in the second half looking to get back on level terms and almost did after a great Denis Cherysev return pass into Geoffrey Kondogbia who mishit it over from close range.
Valencia CF had two great shots on goal in quick succession which were kept out by the Rayo Vallecano keeper. Former Valencia CF man, Mario Suárez made it 2-0 deep into stoppage time. The match finished 2-0 to Rayo Vallecano as Club’s record unbeaten run of 17 matches came to an end at Vallecas.
