Match Report: Parejo’s spot-kick goal earns VCF a valuable win (0-1)
Valencia CF played against Sevilla FC in a big clash for Europe at the Sanchez Pizjuán at 4.15 pm kick-off-time (CET) on matchday 29. Valencia CF had a quiet start to the match with the home side having much of the possession in the first minutes of the first half.
Valencia CF captain Dani Parejo had the first chance of the match in the 12th minute of the match from a free kick but his shot went wide of the right post. Things evened out throughout the first half.
Ex-Valencia CF midfielder, Ever Banega, clipped Jose Luis Gayà with a high boot to the knee inside the box in the final minutes of the first half. Dani Parejo stepped up to emphatically dispatch it into the bottom left corner to give Valencia CF the breakthrough. The first half finished 1-0 for Valencia CF.
Valencia CF emerged in the second half looking to double their advantage. Carlos Soler had the first chance of the second half following a Dani Parejo corner kick but Carlos Soler lashed it wide.
Valencia CF were clearly on top in the opening minutes of the second period. So much so, that Kevin Gameiro came tantalisingly close to doubling Valencia CF’S lead with an absolute rocket of a shot that was saved by the keeper and then it came off the underside of the bar and bounced just in front of the goal line.
Valencia CF’s defence were made to work by Sevilla FC who were spraying crosses and putting Marcelino’s team under pressure but they managed to hold on to that 1-0 lead after some dramatic final moments in the match and thanks to a professional defensive display.
Valencia CF will welcome Real Madrid on Wednesday at Mestalla on matchday 30 in another standout fixture at 9.30 pm kick-off time.
