With the score at 1-1, through goals from Luis Suárez (Uruguay) and Arturo Vidal (Chile), the Valencia CF forward was brought on in the 86th minute. He put on a display of effectiveness that proved enough for the 3 points, making the desired impact.

In the 92nd minute of play, Gómez gathered a ball on the edge of the area, lined up his body and sent a powerful shot into the net.
The hero of the night at the Centenario de Montevideo stadium, Gómez will be in contention to feature against Ecuador in his country's next game on October 13th. Following that, he will be back in Valencia to prepare for the club's regional derby against Villarreal.
