Valencia CF player Mouctar Diakhaby shared a message on his social media platforms regarding the racial insult received on Sunday:
“Hello. I want to talk about what happened in Cadiz this past Sunday. Two days on, I am very calm and I want to speak.
In Cadiz last Sunday, there was an incident in which a player insulted me. The words that he used were "Negro de mierda" ("F***ing black").The opposition player said that to me, and it is intolerable. You all saw my reaction. Saying that is something that can't happen in normal life, and above all in football -a sport based on respect.
Afterwards, my teammates and I decided to return to the dressing room. It was a good decision. Later, one of their (Cadiz`s) players asked one of our players if we would come back out onto the pitch if (Juan) Cala apologised. My teammates and I said "No. That is not the way things are done. You can't do something like that, apologise and it just be forgiven. No."
I feel fine today, but it hurt me. It hurt me a lot. That's life, and there are things like that in life. I hope that LaLiga will do something about it, imposing sanctions and gathering evidence so that everything is cleared up.
I want to thank Valencia CF, my teammates and the coaching staff for the solidarity and support that they showed. I also want to thank everybody else for the support and affection they have shown me. I want to tell everybody that I am OK. Thank you.”
