Corberán: “It’s time to compete and to give our all”
The coach looks ahead to the game against Deportivo Alavés
One player from Uruguay and one from Spain have been united by their understanding on the pitch... and a traditional South American beverage. Maxi Gómez and Ferran Torres combined again for the only goal of the game against UD Logroñés in the Copa del Rey, with a cross in scored by the striker, and they celebrated with the famous mate tea that they both enjoy.
Before each training session and match, as well as on away trips, the pair usually enjoy a mate together. Almost inseparable, they spend hours chatting in hotel rooms and on the team bus when VCF travel to games.
"One day I tried it and I liked it," says Ferran, who hadn't tried mate until Gómez joined the club last summer. Players like Rodrigo, Gabriel Paulista and Rubén Sobrino have also been converted by the 'master of mate' in recent months.
The connection is bearing fruit on the pitch, where Gómez is benefitting from a special understanding with his teammates in the quest for goals.
