MATCH REPORT | Valencia CF draw with Mexico in friendly (2-2)
Dani Gómez scores the two goals for the team.
Valencia CF played out a 2-2 draw in their friendly match against the Mexico national team at the Cuauhtémoc Stadium in Puebla (Mexico). Dani Gómez scored both goals for the side.
The first attacks were by Mexico, and off a free kick close to the edge of the area they scored the first goal of the match. Alexis Vega hit his shot over the wall, the ball hitting Vicent Abril's right post and bouncing off the goalkeeper's back and in.
Valencia CF tried to react and came close to equalising with a corner kick taken by Pepelu met by Dani Gómez.
Off a counterattack by Mexico, Vicent Abril had to deny Martínez the second goal for the home side.
Valencia CF began to steal balls in the opponent's half with high block pressing on the Mexican centre-backs and enjoyed numerous opportunities through Martín Tejón, Dimitri Foulquier and Fran Pérez.
Just when they were performing better, they conceded for a second time. Ozziel Herrera drove in an unstoppable shot from outside the area to double the lead.
Abril kept out a strike a few minutes later, then two minutes before the end of the first half, Pepelu connected with Dani Gómez and the forward reduced the gap with a shot impossible for goalkeeper Raúl Rangel to keep out.
The second half began with a double intervention by Abril, then a Rodrigo Abajas shot from inside the area that was met by Rangel.
The equaliser came after a cross to the far post from Abajas, which Correia reached and found Gómez in the six-yard box to make it 2-2. The scoreline remained unchanged thereafter in the friendly.
