Coach Isma Fayos talks about the response from the North American academy
Two weeks ago today, the DANA weather phenomenon hit the region of Valencia. The affected areas are still trying to recover, with the help of the army and volunteers from all parts of Spain.
Isma Fayos, a coach at the VCF Academy Canada, had his trip to Valencia delayed by the tragedy, but both he and the North American network with a connection to the club have been doing their bit to help.
"This situation has crossed borders. At the VCF Academy Canada everyone was asking us how the situation was and how they could help. The VCF Academy Programs sent us several links where we could make donations, such as the Banco de Alimentos food bank, and the people from the VCF Academy Canada have been helping out," says Fayos.
A few days later, he himself was able to help in person in some of the affected towns, taking advantage of the rescheduled visit he had to Valencia to carry out training at the Ciudad Deportiva.
"I was in Catarroja and Albal, collaborating at a food delivery point. We took supplies from house to house, delivering to the elderly or those families with small children who have more limited mobility. The response in Valencia has been incredible. It is amazing the number of people who have come, altruistically, from all over Spain. We will have to remain close by and continue helping for as long as they need it," Fayos continued.
“The club's international projects are very close to Valencia CF, with the same shirt and badge, and at the VCF Academy Canada we feel this situation as if it were our own. We are trying to help in any way they can.”
Last weekend the teams held a minute of silence and wore black armbands at their matches in memory of the victims and those affected.
