This poster is inspired by the last season at Mestalla
Valencia CF will face UE Tavernes de la Valldigna on Wednesday night, 28 October at 9 pm, at Mestalla in the match corresponding to the first round of the Copa del Rey 26-27.
As part of the collaboration between the Club and Valencian artist Lawerta to pay tribute to the last season at our stadium, a commemorative poster for the match has been created.
On this occasion, the tribute is to our beloved Mestalla in its last season as the home of Valencia CF. On 20 May 1923, against Levante FC, the first match was played at this stadium, which takes its name in honour of the main irrigation canal that ran alongside it on the southern side. This canal also passes by Nou Mestalla.
It is worth highlighting that our stadium has also hosted numerous national and international matches, as well as having been a venue for the 1982 World Cup and a sub-venue for the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games.
Another interesting fact is that Valencia CF have played 1,508 LALIGA matches at Mestalla. Furthermore, the Valencia CF home ground is the stadium where the most matches in the Spanish top division have been played (1,512).
Against UE Tavernes, it will be the second time in the Club's history that Valencia CF play as the away team at their own stadium, following the match on 9 May 1964, also in the Copa del Rey, when they faced CD Mestalla -currently VCF Mestalla-.
