OFFICIAL STATEMENT
In response to the statement made by Ezequiel Garay regarding a supposed smear campaign against him by persons within the club, Valencia CF wish to express the following:
1. We regret and are surprised at the statements made, and wish to stress that the club have never wanted to enter into public controversies with players, who are an important part of the entity. On the contrary, the club have shown care and constant support at all times.
2. As the player himself indicates, his contract renewal process began in the month of July 2019, and several proposals made since that time which would have improved upon his current contract at Valencia CF were rejected -a decision that is completely respectable and fair.
3. Regarding his inclusion in an ERTE procedure, like the rest of the employees at the club, the exclusive motive for which the club were obliged to do this was that the player was the only footballer to reject signing the universal agreement reached with the entire first team and coaching staff for a reduction in payment; an agreement aimed to help the club and its employees in a solidary way, during the economic crisis generated by the coronavirus pandemic. This circumstance was omitted by the club precisely to avoid controversies and public criticism.
