Cristiano Piccini got his first start for Valencia CF in LaLiga since August 25th, 2019, in a game that also took place at Balaidos against Celta Vigo. The Italian talked about his full return with VCF Media after the Matchday 16 win.
The importance of the win
Obviously it was a very important win for us. We had three consecutive draws after the victory over Villarreal, and it was very important for the team to win today.
The team are doing a good job during the week, and we want to start winning games more regularly. I think that we have the team for that, and we want to be as high up the table as possible.
A strong second half
Celta created a lot of second balls in the first half. They scored off a ball lost by us. We were able to react and made the most of a mistake by them. We came out for the second half with the mentality of going for the win, and we got it.
Upcoming targets
The objective is to look higher up the table, win games, win against Elche and then look up.
On Saturday we will have a game at home, and we will have to be strong to make it two wins in a row.
Returning to the starting XI
It was a joy on a personal level to enjoy minutes and to win the game. If I think about everything that has happened in the past two years, it's been very difficult, but now it's time to enjoy it -which is what I want.
Dmitri Foulquier is suspended and Thierry Correia is injured, so I thought that I was going to play. I was ready and I've been working for a long time. I've been training consistently for the past two or three months, without problems, so I hope to increase my minutes and get back into my best shape. I'm happy with today on a personal level, and above all for the team.
