Valencia CF victorious away at CA Osasuna (1-4)

A strong start to the season continues with a comprehensive win at El Sadar on Matchday 4

Valencia CF claimed a 1-4 victory against CA Osasuna on LaLiga Matchday 4, taking their points tally to 10 points from a possible 12 and extending their unbeaten run. Goals from Maxi Gómez, Gonçalo Guedes (x2) and Omar Alderete saw the team overcome an early setback to win at El Sadar for the first time in 9 years.

The opening moments saw Osasuna awarded a penalty which was eventually overturned by VAR, but the Valencia CF suffered another setback just 8 minutes in: Moncayola put the home side ahead with a shot from the edge of the area that made it 1-0.

Valencia CF showed character and desire in response, and Guedes was the epitome of this: Highly active in generating danger, he was the first to test opposition goalkeeper Sergio Herrera's reflexes, whilst Daniel Wass provided a similar threat with a powerful drive that went just wide of the post.

The equaliser arrived soon thereafter, before half an hour of play had elapsed. The in-form Carlos Soler looked up from the right wing and served up a measured cross to Maxi Gómez, who attacked the near post and turned the ball into the net.

The score remained 1-1 at halftime, with Valencia CF growing in confidence.

The score remained 1-1 at halftime, with Valencia CF growing in confidence. After the restart, they took the lead for the first time: Guedes, who had enjoyed a great first half, made a solo run and delivered a shot towards goal that glanced in off Osasuna defender Aridane.

With his side 1-2 up, Guedes continued with his masterclass. Just minutes after his first goal, his second arrived as he powered his way past two defenders, found a gap and sent a strike past Herrera.

Adding to the scoring before the end, Omar Alderete rose above the defence to nod in an unstoppable header from a Soler corner, completing the rout.

The team’s sensational start to 2021/22 continues apace, with a first away win in eight months and back-to-back victories for the first time in two seasons.  Next up are Real Madrid at Mestalla on Matchday 5.
