Voro: "This win gives us life, and we have a chance of getting into Europe"

The Valencia CF caretaker coach talked about his side's important win over Espanyol

Coach Voro gave his opinions on Valencia CF's 1-0 win at Mestalla against Espanyol on Matchday 37.

A chance of a Europa League place

"The team needed the victory. After the defeat at Leganés we were very disappointed to lose out on a very good opportunity. The aim was to win today and not think about anything else. We had to focus solely on today's game. After beating Espanyol we now have a mathematical chance, and we will be fighting at a very tough ground to visit. This win gives us life, and we have a chance of getting into Europe that we are going to cling to until the end."

A good start and a late dip

"We didn't play well in the second half. We were ahead on the scoresheet after a first half in which we played with responsibility. RC Espanyol pushed us, freshened their team up and stepped things up, and our tendency has been to defend. We played together and we were organised. We had a good first half and struggled in the second half, but there are games like that, in which you have to suffer and defend. We were able to hold on, to take a victory that was important and necessary for us continuing to have a chance of playing in Europe."

Watching out for other results

"I wasn't keeping aware of them. Espanyol were attacking more and more, we went a man down and we had our hands more than full with our job. The important thing was to take the three points. The other results have favoured us and we have a chance heading into the final game."

Carlos Soler, Kang In and Ferran Torres

"Carlos Soler is a very important player, just like everyone else. We played him because we know what he can give us; he's a player who can handle the pace of the game. He started in central midfield, moved to a position behind the strikers and then played on the wing after the sending off. He did a good job.

"Kang In and Ferran played together like they have at other times. We wanted to open up the pitch, with movement inside and outside to nulify the opposition's ability to deal with long balls."

Parejo's absence

"I spoke with him and he accepted it, because he is a professional, just like other players who haven't played. We have another game on Sunday and we have gone into the end of the season with a lot of tiredness. There is no problem. In Seville we will try to field the most competitive team that we have."

Heading to the Sánchez Pizjuán

"We aren't in the best condition, and we will go into the final game with an accumulation of fatigue -both physical and mental. After the game against Leganés, things looked very bleak, and now we have a chance, which we are going to push for to the fullest."
