Gayà: "The sending off affected the game"
The captain speaks after his unfortunate red card
Valencia CF captain, José Luis Gayà, explained the incident that led to his red card in the Matchday 2 game against CA Osasuna.
The red card
“One action can change a game, and in this case it was my turn to experience that. Víctor pressed up on me very quickly. I tried to control the ball, because I thought that if I gave it to the goalkeeper, since Víctor was coming in so fast, might be able to take it away. The ball ended up between my feet, he took it and I couldn't get out of the way. It hurts because we came into the game with the intention of having a good showing, and my sending off had a big impact. Football is about very quick actions sometimes, and I couldn't get out of the way to avoid a red card.”
The game
“We hadn't started the game well, but it was an action that defined the match because it happened in the 20th minute. It's already hard with 11 men, but with 10, it's even more difficult, and we were also at a tough ground. Everyone put in a huge effort in the second half, when a man down, and we had that Danjuma chance that almost saw us equalise. The team kept trying until the end. They finished the game defending deep, and we kept pushing. We're already thinking about Friday's game against Getafe CF in front of our fans, and we have to come out with enthusiasm and the desire to get the three points. We have to pick ourselves up; there's still the whole of the LALIGA season ahead of us, and at Mestalla we have to start winning. With our fans behind us, we're going to go for it.”
