Aguirre: "Turning the situation around is a question of hard work"

The midfielder reflects on the game against Real Madrid
Guido Rodríguez spoke to VCF Media after the final whistle in Valencia CF's 0-3 loss to Real Madrid in LaLiga.
BEING UP AGAINST IT
“The goal had a major impact. We had started the match with intensity. We were defending, of course, against opponens that dominated us for long stretches. But I think we had created some chances, like the one for Mayol or the goal of mine that was disallowed. Then, following a free kick awarded by the referee, they scored on the second phase of play, and suddenly everything became an uphill battle. Against teams like this, the match changes completely once you go behind.”
THE FOUL BY MAFFEO
“I didn’t see the replay. I think both players were running, and Pablo tried to knock the other player off balance. There were also several instances involving our players, like Sadiq or Aimar, where they were bumped into. These are the referee’s decisions.”
GAYÀ'S SENDING OFF
“At the end, I went and asked the referee about it, since there were players sprinting back to defend. He told me it wasn’t about Gayà being the last man, but rather about the intensity. The referee could have handled certain situations differently, but there’s nothing we can do about it now. We have to keep going, keep working, put our heads down and work together to get through this.”
WORKING HARD
“We have to work hard. That’s all there is to it. We need to keep our mouths shut, work hard, and deliver results. We aren’t going to give up. There’s a long way to go. We have the cup match, which is very important, and a couple of weeks ahead to work and prepare for the game that awaits us after the break.”
THE HOMAGE TO JESÚS DE MIGUEL
“It was something that deeply affected us. I’d like to take this opportunity to send all our strength to the entire family. It was a tragedy that took place on a football pitch, and just saying that gives me goosebumps. I truly believe that the utmost respect is called for, and that this matchday should serve as a moment of remembrance for all of LaLiga and all of Spain.”
