MATCH REPORT: VALENCIA CF BEAT TORINO FC 3-0 IN TROFEU TARONJA
A trio of goals help warm up for the new season
Valencia CF took a 3-0 victory over Torino FC in the 53rd edition of the Trofeu Taronja preseason game at Mestalla. Javi Guerra scored twice, with Luis Rioja contributing the other goal.
In the first half, Valencia CF came out determined to open the scoring quickly. Dani Raba's initial shot went wide, but almost surprised the Italian side after a good recovery and a quick attack in which he combined with Guerra on the edge of the box.
The next to try his luck was Rioja, with an effort which the opposition goalkeeper saved with a great display of reflexes. Tárrega also had an attempt thwarted, before the deadlock was broken.
The first goal came after Guerra ran forward, combined with Foulquier, and finished with a precise shot to make it 1-0. It was a great way to celebrate his contract renewal until 2029.
Torino FC barely provided any danger, except for an isolated attack in the 23rd minute that Ché Adams hit from the perimiter of the area, saved well by Julen Agirrezabala.
Valencia CF continued to control the game, and before halftime, Rioja would increase the lead. The winger cut inside on a solo move down the right and tucked his shot inside post, out of the reach of the goalkeeper.
In the second half, the Italians would lose Anjorin, who was sent off in the 50th minute. The numerical disadvantage, however, would not dampen Torino FC's desire to fight back, and Julen Agirrezabala was forced to act in a difficult one-on-one.
Raba and Diego López had various dangerous attempts, but the third goal would go to Javi Guerra, with a delightful chip over the goalkeeper to cap off a perfect night for him.
Before the end, new signing Baptiste Santamaría came on in midfield. Valencia CF took a solid win that puts them in a good position for the start of the new season.
Next up is the first LaLiga game of the campaign, on August 16th at home to Real Sociedad (9:30 pm).
