The LaLiga Matchday 30 game ends 2-3
Valencia CF suffered a 2-3 turnaround at Mestalla at the hands of Celta Vigo, as despite going ahead through Guido Rodríguez, the visitors came back in the second half. A late second goal from the Argentine proved to be insufficient to earn a share of the points on Matchday 30.
The match began at a high tempo with several attacks for Valencia CF. Almeida nearly put the team ahead with a superb free kick that Celta Vigo goalkeeper Radu had to tip over the bar for a corner. From the ensuing set piece, Guido Rodríguez scored the first goal for Valencia, pouncing on the rebound and firing a low shot in from outside the box (1-0).
After a few somewhat disjointed minutes, Valencia CF had a chance to extend their lead with a header from Cömert off a cross from Nuñez on the right flank, but it went off target.
In the following spell, Carlos Corberán's men controlled the game and defended resolutely until the end of the first half.
SECOND HALF
In the opening moments of the second stanza, Valencia CF had to contend with a chance for RC Celta. Guido made a great tackle to win the ball and end the move. Shortly after, Jutglà to shoot over the crossbar for the opposition.
Celta levelled when former Valencia player Ilaix Moriba poked a rebound in the box into the net, making it 1-1.
Four minutes later, Fer López scored Celta's second goal.
Valencia CF made four substitutions in response: Sadiq, Beltrán, Ugrinic, and Thierry all came on in changes for the home team.
Rioja came close to equalising with a free kick that grazed the post, before Danjuma also entered the game in search of a comeback.
In the 81st minute, Williot Swedberg scored the visitors' third goal, making it 1-3. Two minutes after that, Sadiq had a great chance to score for Valencia CF, but his shot went wide of the goal.
In stoppage time, 90 minutes, the Nigerian striker had another good opportunity, and on the next move Guido scored Valencia CF's second from a Sadiq cutback. Although the score was pulled back to 2-3, there would be no equaliser, and Valencia CF missed out on the points.
Valencia CF will travel to Elche on Saturday, April 11th, to face Elche on Matchday 31.
