Rioja: "We leave here annoyed that we didn't get the three points"
The attacker assesses the draw in LaLiga
The Valencia CF coach talks after the 1-1 draw with Sevilla FC
Valencia CF coach Carlos Corberán gave a press conference after his side shared the points with Sevilla FC on LaLiga Matchday 15.
ASSESSMENT OF THE REFEREEING
“My analysis of the match has more to do with what we can control, with the game itself, than with what the referee does. There are certain moves in the game that stand out. It's clear that Hugo Duro should have changed his shirt because he took a knock to the nose. I understand that it's an action that VAR could review, but they didn't consider it as such. Refereeing is one of those things we can't control.”
TEAM ANALYSIS
“My assessment of the match is that it was very physical and tight. We struggled to impose ourselves and create chances. It's true that Sevilla didn't create many opportunities either. We lost our shape at the start of the second half, and they managed to overcome our pressure a couple of times and take the lead. Despite how sluggish the game was, the team didn't give up and fought until the end. In stoppage time, we got the goal which, although insufficient, is a small reward for the effort the team put in to go for the win.”
THE TEAM’S EVOLUTION
“I see that the team have grown in the effort and intensity they put in until the very end, refusing to give up and not being overwhelmed when difficulties arise. Today, when that goal came, the team persisted and tried to give everything until the final whistle. That's something I consider very valuable. The team demonstrated that both today and against Rayo. It's difficult to impose yourself on every opposing side. It's a matter of taking things one game at a time; sometimes you succeed and sometimes you don't. But I see that the team have gained an ability to not fall apart and to keep pushing when things aren't going our way. We would have loved to have dominated Sevilla, scored many goals, and given that to the fans. That was our wish. But when things don't go your way, it's positive to see that the team try until the very end.”
JAVI GUERRA
“Substitutions don't worry me when there are players on the bench who can contribute. Today I would like to highlight the role of the players who came off the bench. For me, they all contributed in terms of energy and presence, and were able to help turn the game around and create chances in the penalty area. The game was generally a little languid, and I don't think we should single out any one player for the fact that we struggled to control it.”
THE REACTION AFTER THE GOAL
“Goals change the emotions of both teams. Sevilla sat back after the goal, and that allowed us to attack for longer periods and generate more chances. The team wanted to win, they tried, but it was sluggish. It was a very physical match, with a lot of second balls; there wasn't a clear advantage in any area. It was a game of one-on-one situations, and sometimes you find a way to solve them and sometimes you don't. At the end of the first half, we created a good scoring opportunity by opening up play with Danjuma. Then, in the second half, trying to do the same, they started attacking better and we defended worse. After the goal, they stopped attacking, and we were able to attack more.”
CÉSAR TÁRREGA
“From now on, we’ll analyse the available players and whether or not Diakhaby will be available for the next match, and we’ll see what the best way to approach things is. Regarding today’s match, the goal wasn’t César’s fault. It was a move where the opposition managed to overcome our pressure; there were two similar moves beforehand. They managed to beat us down the wing and put in a very dangerous cross. I think if Tárrega hadn’t cleared it, the striker would have been there to finish. It was a very difficult play to defend, and there’s no individual blame to be placed.”
