Cup history against Granada for Valencia CF
Granada CF vs. Valencia CF is a Copa del Rey fixture with plenty of history, and Tuesday's meeting will be the eighth time the paths of the two sides have crossed in the cup competition.
It is nearly 80 years since the first such encounter, and Valencia CF have emerged victorious on almost every occasion: They have gone through in 6 of the 8 ties.
However, this season's competition is tougher than ever, with a change of format to a single leg and two tricky ties against UD Logroñés and Cultural Leonesa proof of this for Albert Celades' side.
The only time that Valencia CF were knocked out of the Copa del Rey by Granada CF was in 1959, and it happened in a replay at the neutral venue of the Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid. Previously, each side had won their home game 1-0.
Valencia CF went through in 1942, 1945, 1946, 1970, 1972 and 2016, with the most recent cup contest between the two ending 7-0 on aggregate (4-0 and 0-3).
Recent form at the Nuevo Los Cármenes has seen six wins (2011/12, 2012/13, 2013/14 and 2015/16 in the Copa del Rey, 2015/6 and 2016/17) and a draw for VCF. This season, Granada have been taken into extra time on three occasions, but have got past CE l’Hospitalet, CF Badalona and CD Badajoz.
A place in the semifinal is at stake on Tuesday night.
