Match Report: Home loss to Real Betis (0-3)

Valencia CF hosted Real Betis Balompié on Tuesday, May 10th at 7 pm kick-off time at Mestalla on Matchday 36 of LaLiga Santander  

The game had a lively start at both ends with Hugo Duro who had made his Valencia CF move permanent earlier in the day testing Rui Silva with a powerful low drive three minutes into the first half at Mestalla.

Valencia CF and Real Betis tried to dictate play but both sides coughed up possession lacking precision in their passing as they struggled to settle into the game halfway through the first period.  

Valencia CF pressing high up the pitch to win back possession and looking to pounce on their lack of precision. 

Giorgi Mamardashvili produced a couple of fine stops to former Valencia CF man, Sergio Canales and Nabil Fekir over the half-hour mark. 

Valencia CF tried to play through Real Betis with nifty exchanges of the ball, but Ilaix Moriba’s effort blazed over the crossbar the remainder of the half passed off without further incidents and the first period finished scoreless at the intermission.

Valencia CF had a commanding start to the second half. Alas, William José made it 0-1 to Real Betis Balompié close to the hour mark at Mestalla. 

José Bordalás made a double substitution over the hour mark bringing on Gonçalo Guedes and Maximiliano Gómez who replaced Bryan Gil and Thierry Correia respectively looking to get back on level terms. 

 Gonçalo Guedes came close to making an instant impact right off the bench, but his effort came off Germán Pezzella and the ball rolled across the face of goal and out of play.  

Valencia CF kept on pushing for the equaliser with some link-up play between Jesús Vázquez, Maxi Gómez and Gonçalo Guedes which was scrambled away by Marc Bartra from the ground with little over 15 minutes of regulation time plus injury time left to go.  

Former Valencia CF man, Sergio Canales, made it 0-2 to Real Betis Balompié and Borja Iglesias made it 0-3 in the 89th minute to complete the harsh scoreline at Mestalla.
