On A Day Like Today: Soler's first big night at Mestalla
Three years ago today, on April 6th, 2017, Carlos Soler scored a goal that will forever occupy a place on his personal highlight reel. The strike -a delicate chip over the opposition goalkeeper- enabled Valencia CF to take victory against Celta Vigo, and made amends for a mistake made earlier in the game.

Soler had conceded a penalty prior to his goal, having brought down Iago Aspas inside the box. Valencia CF had recovered from going 0-1 down to establish a 2-1 lead, through Dani Parejo and Munir, but Aspas equaliser from the spot meant that they were on course for only a point. However, VCF and Soler had other ideas.
Enzo Pérez took the ball across the halfway line and poked it through to Soler on the edge of the area. He took a series of shuffling steps, lined up a shot and, with his first touch, lifted the ball over the keeper and into the net. It was a finish honed through his more than 500 goals scored during his time at the VCF Academy.

It was also his first goal at Mestalla. Both of his previous ones had come away from home, against Villarreal and Deportivo Alavés. Special because of the venue, the chants of "Carlos, Carlos!" around the ground, and the three points that helped Valencia CF move further away from the drop zone, it was one of the most important goals scored by Soler to date.
