Corberán: “I value every point the team get highly”
The Valencia CF coach reviews the game against Rayo Vallecano
Valencia CF coach Carlos Corberán talked after the 1-1 draw with Rayo Vallecano at Vallecas.
Continuing the positive streak
“I value every point the team get highly. Especially when it's accompanied by the effort, commitment, and dedication to getting it that we saw today. Perhaps the point was a result deserved by both teams. There were chances. Valencia CF were the better side in the first 20 minutes, and then we got bogged down, which caused us to lose presence when attacking. In the second half, we couldn't overcome their press, and with the substitutions, we managed to turn the game around.”
Substitutions
“The desire to compete is essential, and I don't expect anything less. Almeida was sensational. I saw him have a very complete game, and he brought the full-back out of his position. I didn't change Pepelu because of Enzo's injury; I wanted to play the game with Pepelu as the central midfielder, for his clarity and balance, or bring on Canós for his shooting, and the team were focused. Enzo's injury meant Pepelu came on.”
Sadiq's minutes
“At no point have this club placed any limits on any player. In fact, in the Real Sociedad game, it was an injury that prevented Sadiq from playing. Imagine the level of commitment we have to achieving the objective. I've never had any limitations; quite the opposite.”
Tactics against Rayo
“We were able to find ways to overcome Rayo’s pressure. The positioning and execution were good. That allows for quick attacks or to get into the opponent's half, and at that moment, when the opposition retreat, you have to extend the attack. That's the game we weren’t able to play, in the opponent's half. We did the hardest part of overcoming their pressure, but in the other side of the game, we rushed things.”
Javi Guerra
“I'm happy with the whole group. I can see that everyone is responding the way the situation required. I see everyone focused on continuing to work every day, competing in every game. I liked Javi Guerra's maturity.”
European qualification
“It's not possible to talk about any new objectives without having achieved the first one yet. The team have to keep adding points and there is a lot of work ahead. The target will require a lot of effort and dedication.”
Improvements at Valencia CF
“I came here in a situation of extreme need and with the absolute commitment to give my all to the cause we had, and I give that every minute. The squad do as well. There's been a very important reaction from them in terms of generosity, dedication, and fighting spirit, defending the values of this club and giving our all so that our fans can regain joy and identification with the team.”
