The team go home empty handed on their trip to the capital
Valencia CF fell to a 4-0 defeat to Real Madrid CF at the Santiago Bernabéu, on LaLiga Matchday 11.
In the early stages of the game against the league leaders, Valencia CF showed solid defensive organisation, with fullbacks José Luis Gayà and Thierry Correia alert to intercept the ball from opposition wingers Franco Mastantuono and Vinicius Jr.
However, goalkeeper Julen Agirrezabala soon had to make a save with his left leg to deny Vinicius Jr. Shortly after, the shotstopper denied Jude Bellingham from a similar chance.
In the ensuing move off a corner kick for Real Madrid, a VAR check awarded a controversial penalty to Real Madrid. The home team’s Eder Militao headed the ball, Correia and César Tárrega jumped alongside the Brazilian centre back, and the ball struck the defender's hand. Off the subsequent spot kick, Kylian Mbappé converted to make it 1-0.
In the following minutes, Valencia CF tried to recover from the setback and attempted to capitalise on a counterattack led by Arnaut Danjuma, but they were unable to finish off the move.
Shortly after, Real Madrid scored again. Bellingham connected with Arda Güler, and he passed to Mbappé in the box. The Frenchman finished with his left foot to take the scoreline to 2-0.
With five minutes remaining in the first half, Agirrezabala saved a penalty from Vini Jr. and, on the rebound, showed great reflexes by stopping Güler's shot.
On the very next move, Bellingham scored Real Madrid's third goal after a solo run on the edge of the penalty area.
After the halftime break, coach Carlos Corberán brought on André Almeida -who was making his 100th official appearance for Valencia CF- and later introduced Hugo Duro, Jesús Vázquez, and Cömert.
In the 60th minute, Agirrezabala was called into action again, making a superb stop to deny Mbappé another goal. At the other end Almeida took a powerful shot from the edge of the Real Madrid penalty area, but Courtois parried.
Danjuma's runs off several counterattacks were not quite concluded successfully, and in the end it would be a frustrating night for Valencia CF. In the 83rd minute, Real Madrid CF scored their fourth goal of the match with a shot into the top corner by Álvaro Carreras.
Late on, from a counter, Javi Guerra came very close to scoring with a great shot that struck the post. The game concluded 4-0 to Real Madrid.
Valencia CF will host Real Betis on Sunday, November 9th on LaLiga Matchday 12.
