Valencia CF will visit the Carlos Tartiere again after 25 years

The most recent match at the ‘carbayón’ stadium was on April 22, 2001

Valencia CF will return to Asturian soil this coming Saturday at 18:30, when they face Real Oviedo at the Carlos Tartiere. It will be a special match because, after 25 years, Valencia CF will play in this stadium again.

The Valencian side has faced Real Oviedo on 96 occasions, winning 48.96% of those matches. As visitors, Valencia CF have played in the different stadiums (Teatinos, Buenavista/Carlos Tartiere, and the Carlos Tartiere) used by the ‘carbayón’ club throughout its history, achieving 13 victories.

As an interesting note, the Buenavista/Carlos Tartiere (the name adopted in 1958 in honor of Carlos Tartiere de las Alas Pumariño—president of the club for 24 years) was built due to the need created by the 1926 merger between Real Club Deportivo Oviedo (1919) and Real Stadium Club Ovetense (1914). It also hosted matches during the 1982 FIFA World Cup in Spain. The current Carlos Tartiere stadium was built between 1998 and 2000 and has a capacity of 30,500 spectators.

Another interesting aspect of this match is that Diego López developed in the youth academy of Real Sporting, the biggest rival of the Oviedo-based team.
