Corberán: “Tomorrow Valencia CF are playing, and we have to go for the win -whoever plays”

The Valencia CF coach’s pre-match press conference

Valencia CF coach Carlos Corberán gave a press conference ahead of the  LALIGA EA Sports Matchday 3 game against RC Deportivo de A Coruña.

The atmosphere in the dressing room

“If there were anything that worried me, I would have corrected it. I see the players in the dressing room eager to win. The team gave their all in both matches, and the attitude and commitment have been impeccable, which is necessary to achieve what we all want.”

The transfer market

“Anything related to names or transfers is for internal discussion with the club.”

Guido's injury

“If you build a system in a year that depends on one player, then that system is flawed. You can't rely on one player. Whoever plays, it’s Valencia CF playing. Tomorrow, we have to see a team that will win regardless of who's on the pitch, a team that give everything and fight tooth and nail. That's the mentality we have.”

Injuries and returnees

“I already said it was absurd to play one game, two days, and then another game in August. Guido and Maffeo's muscle injuries are the consequences of that. It's pushing the players to their limits. The rest of the squad is available, and Foulquier is back in.”

Effectiveness from shots on target

“Scoring goals is important, as is defending well, but scoring goals involves two aspects: offensive production and the effectiveness of the offensive action. Both aspects reflect a collective responsibility in our generating and finishing them. In the offensive output, the goalkeeper is just as important as the centre backs, midfielders, wingers, and forwards. It's a collective effort.”

Formations

“There is no ideal system. I’m happy when we show the identity we want to project. When the team have possession and are aggressive, brave, and solid. Our tendency is that when we play with a five-man defence, we don't use a pure back five. Dropping the midfielder in allows you to do things differently.”

A lack of goals

“In the previous two games, we lacked goals, but we can't generalise based on that. We have players with the offensive potential to create more and finish moves off. We have an open transfer window where the focus is on improving the squad's offensive aspects.”

Playing out from the back

“I don’t see it as the team having any problems with that, whether Guido plays or not. We have other important players with similar qualities to him. Whoever plays, the team will be ready to compete and go for the win.”

Harvey Elliott

“I try not to respond to rumours related to the transfer market.”
