Tárrega: "We have to keep improving to get a win at Mestalla"

The defender speaks after the 0-3 loss

César Tárrega talked to VCF Media after Valencia CF's game against Real Madrid.

THE TIMING OF THE OPENING GOAL

“The team started the first half with a very serious approach. It’s a shame. Just when we were playing at our best and making things most difficult for our opponents, those two goals came, which really hurt us. It’s tough to fight back against Real Madrid. We need to take the positives from our performance and work on correcting the mistakes, or the areas where we weren’t quite sharp enough, so that we can eventually secure a win here.”

A HARSH SCORELINE

“We had a very clear game plan from the start, and we were executing it well. Real Madrid weren’t comfortable and weren’t creating any chances. The two goals they scored really killed us; I think those were their first shots on target. They showed just how clinical they can be. As for us, we need to keep working to improve our own clinical edge, while also ensuring we don’t allow those kinds of opportunities.”

REFEREEING DECISIONS

“We shouldn’t get involved in refereeing decisions. At the end of the day, the referee is trying to do the best job he can, and our focus is simply on playing the game.”

THE COPA DEL REY AND RAYO VALLECANO GAMES

“Next up is the Copa del Rey, a competition that always excites us. We want to put in a good performance. It’s a great opportunity for players who haven’t been getting as many minutes to regain their confidence. We need everyone. Building on that unity, we’ll go for the win against Rayo Vallecano. I believe we can win, and that’s what we’re aiming for. We’re a good team, and if we stay united, we can achieve it.”

BEING FULLY RECOVERED

“When you return from an injury, it can take a little time to find your rhythm, but personally, I’ve felt quite good from day one. Still, the results have to follow. If the team don’t win, I’m not happy.”

THE HOMAGE TO JESÚS DE MIGUEL

“It was very emotional. It came as a shock to all of us that something like this could happen to someone in the same profession. Sometimes we don’t value life enough, and it can change in a single second. I want to send all the encouragement and support in the world to his friends and family."
