Eskurza: “Valencia CF have absolutely nailed it with Agirrezabala”

The former Valencia CF player speaks on L’Informatiu on VCF Media Radio about the arrival of the Gipuzkoan goalkeeper at the Club

Xabier Eskurza played for Valencia CF for two seasons (1995–1997). The man from Bizkaia featured on L’Informatiu on VCF Media Radio to talk about Julen Agirrezabala’s signing for the Valencian side.

Agirrezabala

"I think it’s a great move. The fact that Valencia CF managed to bring him in is a total success. I thought Athletic Club wouldn’t let him go, but I understand that the player wants to be a leading figure and is looking for that at a great club like Valencia CF. It’s the perfect combination. As an Athletic fan, I’m very pleased to see a player like him strengthen a club that I also consider mine, which is Valencia CF. Valencia CF are a great club, with a great fanbase and a great project that I hope, this year, gets back to where they belong: in Europe, and fighting for the top.”

2024/25 season for Agirrezabala

"He knows he only played because Unai Simón wasn’t available. But since he proved that he’s ready to play, there’s no better place than Valencia CF. It’s a very smart decision."

Lezama

"There’s tremendous work being done, with great professionals. Since Iribar’s time, it’s been a cradle of great goalkeepers. Zubizarreta was also a key figure who helped keep the prestige of the goalkeeper position alive and helped continue producing great keepers."

Advise for Julen

"I’d encourage him in the decision he’s made. He’s joined a great club, with a great fanbase, in a great city. It’s an incredible place to work and to bet on your growth. At Valencia CF he’ll find himself in a big-club dynamic like at Athletic, where you have to learn to handle the pressure in order to keep growing."
