Match Report: Valencia CF held to home draw (0-0)

Valencia CF welcomed Sevilla FC on Saturday, February 17th at 9 pm kick-off time at Mestalla on Matchday 25 of LaLiga EA Sports.

The game started at a high tempo at both ends with Valencia CF looking to dictate possession and play their way through the Sevilla FC backline. The first Valencia CF chance fell to Sergi Canós but his effort went wide.

Roman Yaremchuk came mighty close to opening the scoring following a pinpoint José Luis Gayà cross but Nyland managed to deny the Ukrainian striker from point-blank range in the 20th minute.

Fran Pérez came close to drawing first blood as he managed to latch onto a Dimitri Fouliquier past and burst down the right flank, alas the Sevilla FC keeper got the better of him just under the half hour mark at Mestalla.

Valencia CF kept on asking questions of the Sevilla FC defence with constant forays into the opposition box. Valencia CF had a penalty appeal waved away by the referee following an Isaac Romero barge from behind inside the 18-yard box on Dimitri Foulquier.

The first half finished goalless at the break with all to play for in the second half.

Valencia CF picked up where they left off as they came out all guns blazing in the second half.  Sergi Canós worked Nyland with an effort from outside the box but the Sevilla FC keeper gobbled it up.

The floodgates open with a flurry of Valencia chances and moments later, Hugo Duro nodded the ball wide following a fine José Luis Gayà delivery. Shortly after, Roman Yaremchuk came close with a powerful effort in a one-on-one situation which took a deflection on Nyland’s shoulder and it went out of play.

Substitute Peter Federico came close to breaking the deadlock on the half-volley but his effort bounced off the turf and fizzed just wide following a corner kick.

Valencia CF kept on pushing for the winning goal in the closing minutes, alas Valencia CF were hard done by as they came away unrewarded and were held to a frustrating goalless draw at Mestalla.
